Recap: HubSpot’s INBOUND16 Part I

Posted 10 November By PlugAdminIndustry NewsOne Comment

We are at a midpoint of HubSpot’s annual INBOUND16 conference where thousands of sales and marketing professionals gather to get educated on inbound marketing tactics, network with business leaders from all kinds of industries and to simply get inspired! Starting Tuesday and all the way through Friday, BCEC would have hosted 19,000+ attendees, 6 keynote speakers including Alec Baldwin and Anna Kendrick, 8 spotlight speakers including Serena Williams, and over 200 breakout sessions. You can imagine the magnitude of the event!

Filled with energy and motivation, INBOUND16’s attendees are hungry for sales and marketing tips. We figured you might be too so here are 4 main takeaways from our favorite speaker: Gary Vaynerchuk.

Gary Vaynerchuk is an entrepreneur, angel investor, creator of VaynerMedia and an avid Youtuber of the #askgaryvee show. Soon after graduating college, the Soviet Union immigrant took over his family wine business and turned it into a $60M business in just five years. Today, the energetic and outspoken venture capitalist has companies like Twitter, Tumblr, Uber and Birchbox.

  • Do Something. This recurring call for action from Gary Vee’s speech almost commanded the audience to stop hiding behind excuses such as not growing up with technology and not understanding how the internet works and spend a day researching and learning Periscope or Instagram or Google+.
  • Stay relevant. “Snapchat, Facebook and Twitter are the new BBC, MTV, ABC.” Gary insisted that in the world of marketing, you absolutely need to stay active on the 5 or 6 most popular social medial platforms.
  • Paid Search. In his bold statement, Gary Vee declared that Google’s paid search is currently underexplored and costs next to nothing compared to the value it provides. He predicted paid search prices for popular key words will cost 10x what they do now. Why paid search? To put things into perspective, its important to realize that while big companies still spend millions on 15 second commercials, most of us watch most TV on demand, skip through when possible or just go on our phones during commercial breaks.
  • Don’t Relax. By show of hands, Gary Vee asked for people whose companies are doing well. His main advice for such individuals? Don’t relax. There’s always going to be someone younger and hungrier out there who will put you out of business. So what should you do? Think of ideas that will put YOU out of business – imagine if Airbnb was created by Marriott and Uber by Grayhound…

Great information, isn’t it? We are very excited for the remaining two days of INBOUND16 and will be blogging about the remaining speakers as well. If you absolutely can’t wait, follow along LIVE streaming on INBOUND’s Facebook page or Twitter feed!
